Wee Reads: This is a Taco by Andrew Cangelose

Ever since Finn was born, and even before then, we would read to him. We wanted to show him reading from an early age. Now he loves us to read the same books, over, and over, and over. But it is the sweetest thing, when he likes to pick out a book and climb into our laps.

This Is a Taco! This Is a Taco by Andrew Cangelose

This is a squirrel . . . "Hey, I may be a squirrel, but my name is Taco! And I don't eat nuts and tree bark—blech—I prefer tacos!" The natural predator of squirrels is . . . "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Who is writing this book? I do not like where this is going." This hilarious send-up of a children's nature primer teaches kids that the most important story is the one you write yourself.

Do you like this book?
Yeah! Because I love squirrels and tacos! We eat tacos a lot!

What's your favorite part of the book?
When there's a GIANT TACO! It's going to eat the other tacos! That's silly! And then when he has to eat the tree and he says ew blegh!

What do you think of the cover?
It has a squirrel eating a taco! Squirrels don't eat tacos!

Do you want me to read it again?
Yeah!!!

This book literally had me cracking up. I was laughing so hard. Squirrels and tacos happen to be two of my favorite things and I feel like I really relate to how much this squirrel loves his tacos.

In this book regular squirrel things happen, he eats bark and gets chased by a hawk. But he realizes he can cross out the words on the page and add in the word tacos. So of course he does, because who doesn't love tacos.

This book has adorable and brightly colored illustrations. It's funny and great for even slightly older kids I think.

We received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
